Abstract

The intestinal microbiota is acquired in the postnatal period, consisting of a wide variety of bacteria that play different functions in the human host, including nutrient absorption, protection against pathogens and modulation of the immune system. The intestinal bacterial content is not fully known, but is known to be influenced by internal and mainly by external factors that modulate its composition and function. Therefore, the evaluation of the microbiota may allow the use of different strategies in order to manipulate the bacterial population and promote health. Recent studies indicate that the intestinal microbiota differs in lean and obese individuals, and in those who have different feeding habits. Thus, in this cross-sectional study we aim to analyze possible differences between the microbiota of groups of eutrophic and overweight individuals showing distinct eating habits (vegan, lacto-ovo-vegetarians and omnivores) and to assess associations with inflammatory (CRP, TNF-alfa, IL-6 and IL-1beta) and metabolic (lipid profile, blood glucose and insulin) parameters. The evaluation of the molecular profile of the microbiota will be performed by fecal sample, using the technique of genetic sequence of 16S rRNA. (AU)
