Abstract

Electrokinetic remediation is a relatively recent technique that is basically the application of an electric current of low intensity between two electrodes or more through the ground.The soils contain within their solid particles, ionic water solutions (interstitials solutions) with particular electric conductivity. This way, the passing of an electric current can mobilize and concentrate the ionic types through the electro-migration and electroosmoses phenomena for the electrodes. It is a technique used in many other areas, but whose application, however, is extended mainly to the remediation of impacted underground water and of crucial interest of this project. The main objectives of this research project are the improvement and the search of new electrokinetic methods for the remediation of area in tropical soils that have been impacted. Studies will be conducted on stand with products of various types simulating different types of soil varying the experimental conditions (different composition electrodes, electric current, humidity, permeability, etc.) to, then, apply in the impacted area. The information provided by this study will certainly contribute to the remediation processes. (AU)
