The theoretical dimension of indexing in Brazilian LIS scientific literature

Abstract

Considering indexing as a theoretical dimension of the subject traetment of information which had a special growth in Brazil since the seventies, it is possible to verify that its terminology highly disseminated in Brazilian LIS scientific literature but many times it is used to designate situatiuons related to "analyse documentaire" also to subject cataloguing. Such a situation difficults the epistemological chacracterization of indexing. In this sense, it aims to identify the Brazilian scientific community of authors on indexing, their dialogical relationships and the terminology used in their publications to represent the specific concepts (keywords). It stars with a conceptual and historical approach on indexing, followed by a theoretical approach on domain-analysis. Based on curricula Lattes of authors whose more than 70% of thir publications is subscribed under the keywords subject analysis, subject representation, abstracting, indexing language(s) and subject reading, it analyses the more productive authors and institutions, the co-authorships, the major journals, and it is possible to elaborate keyword networks as well as citing/cited authors networks in order to verify terminological dispersions as well as theoretical referents.
