Abstract

Advances in nanotechnology have led to the development of a new field of research, nano-medicine. The nano- medicine studies the application of nano-materials for diagnosis and therapy of some pathological conditions. Due to properties such as small size, flexibility, mechanical stability, chemical inertness, electrical conductivity and the association with biological compounds, the carbon nano-particles are extremely attractive in the field of bioengineering. Nanoparticles are beginning to be used for drug-delivery and vectors for protein, RNA and DNA, however, little is known about the effect of these materials on the immune response of the individual, regardless of whether the same be attached to biological molecules (functionalized). The literature is still lacking observations on the use of nanoparticles on immune response in individuals with tumors. Specifically we intend to study the mechanisms of internalization of carbon nanotubes by tumor cells, macrophages and dendritic cells through receptors for opsonized particles do not MARCO. (AU)
