Clinical evaluation of the effectiveness of bleaching gels of low concentration in pulped teeth whitening in-office, with and without the use of hybrid light source and prior etching of the enamel

Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate in vivo the effectiveness of in-office bleaching technique using and not using hybrid light sources (blue and violet LED and laser therapy), with and without etching of the enamel prior to the whitening session, depending on the degree of color change and stability, degree of patients' satisfaction, sensitivity and variation of blood flow. Thirty volunteers will be selected according to the criteria for inclusion and exclusion. Initially, the volunteers will receive supra-gingival prophylaxis, complete evaluation of the color with the spectrophotometer Easyshade Vita (Vita) and the initial sensitivity. For in-office bleaching, patients will be randomized into 3 groups of 10, according to the kind of light source and bleaching agents used, and always on the right hemi-arc upper and lower will be performed enamel etching with phosphoric acid 37% for 15 seconds, before applying the whitening gel. The two arches will receive treatment with the whitening gel 15% and 10% pH (DMC Equipment, Sao Carlos, Brazil) and hydrogen peroxide 35% (DFL, Industry and Trade SA, Brazil). The hybrid light sources based on blue LED/Laser and violet LED/Laser (DMC Equipment, Sao Carlos, Brazil) will be applied for 2 minutes, 3 times for each application of the gel 10% and 15% pH (5 applications/session). The one with PH 35% will be applied 3x 15 ' without light source activation. Patients will return after 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 6 and 12 months for new color evaluation. During this period, they will use toothpaste (Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief, Colgate) and toothbrushes (Colgate Twister Fresh Compacta). The degree of satisfaction and tooth sensitivity will be assessed by the VAS questionnaire. The vascularity of the bleached teeth will be evaluated by the VAS questionnaire. The whitened teeth vascularization will be evaluated by the Laser Doppler system (Moor Instruments Ltd, Millway, Axminster, UK) to confirm the maintenance of pulp vitality after bleaching. Results will be tabulated and will receive appropriate statistical treatment. (AU)
