Abstract

environmental changes, urbanization, migration and host susceptibility. It is present in five national regions and in 22 of the 27 States of the Brazil. The increase of cases of leishmaniasis in urban areas can be explained, in part, by an expansion of cases of HIV infection to endemic areas of LV, manifesting itself when the count of lymphocytes TCD4 is below 200. In Brazil, the epidemiological distribution of coinfected is the same of the risk groups for transmission HIVAIDS (young adults and males). The HIV/Leishmania coinfection is reported more frequently at São Paulo, it has been observed greater rate of relapse and lethality by LV. objectives: To compare the lethality and the relapse in patients presenting LV alone or LV-HIV coinfection. Consider whether there are genotype differences between the strains of Leishmania from patients with LV with and without HIV infection and relate to the outcome of the case (relapse or healing). Materials and methods: Patients coinfected with LV and LV-HIV in the State of São Paulo, in the period of 1999-2011, will be evaluated from the viewpoint of clinical-epidemiological, immune, therapeutic and genotypic of parasite. Expected results: increased lethality and relapse in coinfected patients. Characterization genotypic differences of the parasite in coinfected patients and the best and worst outcomes. (AU)
