Abstract
The growing accumulation of Solid Waste (SW) in urban centers, the importation of new technologies with a greater degree of automation, the depletion of mineral resources, the culture of discard established in Brazil and the high cost of storage, forced the country to a significant advance concerning SW mainly with the promulgation of the National Solid Waste Politics NSWP(2010). However in the technological point of view there are many challenges to be overcome given the complexity of urban and industrial SW and the lack of a unified Solid Waste Management (SWM). This project aims to characterize and study processes and technological alternatives to treat and recycle solid waste within the law agreement that was established by NSWP besides studying the implications and proposed regulations under Brazilian law on the subject. Thus the project will feature a multidisciplinary team with the field of characterization techniques, treatment, recycling and legal knowledge for the optimization of a unified and efficient SWM, which is lacking at national and state levels. With that, the team will be composed of experts and researchers in the Faculty of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from University of São Paulo and the Faculty of Law at USP. (AU)
