Abstract
In Brazil and in various countries around the world, there is a progressive increase in the number of elderly people as a result of the improvement of living conditions of populations and technological advances in healthcare. This process has led to changes in morbidity and mortality profiles, with increased chronic degenerative diseases, among them, the dementias. Caring for people with dementia represents a burden on families. The recognition of symptoms can reduce the tension due to the care and contribute to the quality of life of patients and their families. Since 2006, the assessment for dementia screening is part of the brochure Primary Health Aging: Aging and Health of the Elderly. However, this is rarely done in Primary Care. Many professionals report that they do not feel prepared and have not received training or training for such evaluation. The objective of this study will make available for Brazil the adapted version of the instrument Atenció Sanitària de Les Demències: la visió de L' Atenció Primarià for doctors and nurses, to assess the needs of those professional qualification in care for the elderly with dementia in Primary Care. The specific objectives are: 1) to translate to Portuguese nurses of Brazil, the instrument versions for doctors and 2) to adapt both versions to the Brazilian cultural context through semantic, idiomatic, cultural, experimental and conceptual equivalence, and 3) to perform the pretest of the instrument with doctors and nurses working in the Family Health Strategy. By adjusting the instrument, the aim is to identify skills needs of medical professionals and nurses to support Primary Care educational programs on dementia directed to them. (AU)
