Abstract

The advances of sciences and new technologies has been determining changes in health attendance which, in our country, adding to the enlargement of services accessibility, turned into a marked decreased in children mortality tax. As a part of this process, there is an increase in the survival of premature and low birth weight children. Many studies point to higher probability of growth and development disturbs, earlier or later, mostly for premature and very low birth weight born children, proposing follow up protocols and interventions. Although, there are few definitions related to children born between 1500-2500g, which present more heterogeneous determinants, related to assistance model, responsibilities and different levels of care following the integrality and intersectoriality in assistance. The goal of this study is to know the frequency of growth and development disturbs and links with health and educational public services in a cohort of low birth weight children born between the periods of 2000 - 2005, from the municipality of Embu. As results, the identification of Iimits and possibilities of municipal system answering health and educational needs of these children are expected, as to define the protocols and procedures to the follow up of children born weight from 1500 to 2500g. focus on opportune interventions which could contribute to the best potential of these group of children.
