Abstract

The aim of the present study is: (i) Establish a surveillance and diagnostic multidisciplinary group of HTLV-1 and HTLV-2 infections at IAL (SuDiHIV/HTLV), firstly analyzing samples from HlV-infected patients attended at the STD/AIDS Reference Center in São Paulo, Brazil (CRT DST/Aids); (ii) compare the efficiency of HTLV-1/2 confirmatory assays in the diagnosis of HIV/HTLV-1/2 coinfected individuals (iii) detect HTLV-1/2 proviral load during ARV therapy, (iv) characterize HTLV and HIV isolates, including HIV tropism, (v) search for unique insertion sites (UIS) and clonallity in HTLV-1/H1V coinfected individuals (in London); (vi) evaluate the number and function of T regulatory cells, and (vii) using bioinformatics and statistical tools, correlate the results obtained with socio-demographic and clinical data.
