Indicators of environmental degradation in urban forest remains in metropolitan region of Campinas, SP: a case study of Bacia Rio das Pedras

Abstract

Due to the disorderly occupation of urban spaces, several studies point to the weakening of forest fragments, that among the various impacts are biodiversity loss, changes in distribution of individuals, soil degradation, among others. It is known that the activities are developed in the vicinity of the remnants can generate direct impacts. With the fragmentation of the contact area with the anthropogenic matrix was increased, thus enhancing the pressures on urban forests. This increased contact also enables a higher frequency of encounters between people and wildlife. Among the impacts observed frequently both in urban as in rural soil degradation such as erosion, compaction and the occurrence of heavy metals are common problems. The present work aims to study the degradation of the urban forest fragments present in the watershed of "Ribeirao das Pedras", located in Campinas / SP, seeking indicators of soil, water and landscape ecology to indicate the degree of degradation of these urban spaces, so they can be discussed and implemented appropriate techniques for their maintenance and / or recovery.
