Magnetic, electrical and magnetostrictive properties of multiferroic composites and dilute magnetic semiconductors oxides

Abstract

The investigation of magnetic materials applied to the processing and storage of information has increased in recent decades since the discovery of giant magnetoresistance.. This discovery opened the possibility of using the magnetic properties of materials not only for the storage of information, but also for its processing. Parallel to this, in recent years the possibility of producing multiphase materials, which combine the properties of both ferroelectric and ferromagnetic opened new perspectives for this purpose. The present proposal involves two different classes of materials: composites multiferroic oxides and diluted magnetic oxide semiconductors. The first class we will investigated using various techniques are magnetic and electrical transport in particular measures magnetization, magnetostriction effect and magnetoelectric, as a function of temperature, magnetic field and field drivers. Expected to be able to better understand the mechanisms coupling between electric and magnetic composites in PMN-PT with ferrites of nickel and cobalt. The second class of materials to be investigated are oxide semiconductors, such as IrO2, V2O3, TiO2, among others, doped with impurities such as magnetic Co and Ni. It is intended to realize the interaction processes in these materials which lead to the formation of ferromagnetic order, in particular magnetism which is observed due to the introduction of structural defects in the samples.
