Abstract

This proposal aims at evaluating the metabolic responses of plants of Sorghum bicolor to the Global Climate Changes. In a project financed by FAPESP-Microsoft, the USP/IB group will produce physiological and molecular results from plants of sorghum grown under ambient and/or elevated [CO2] with or without to water suspension. These samples will be sent to the OSU group for analyses of metabolomics (this group is already financed to perform such analyses). With the data in hands, the USP/IB, the OSU and the USP/ESALQ groups will gather to discuss the data produced in an integrated way so as to design possible strategies to transform sorghum plants on the basis of the discoveries of some of the metabolic routes that are altered due to the treatments in the experiment. The products of this proposal will be indication of new strategies for research on the responses of grasses to elevated [CO2] that we expect to lead to the proposition of projects for undergrad, grad students and posdocts that will be part of a long term research collaboration program between OSU and USP.
