Abstract

The water coming from alternative solutions supply is usually not treated and requires special attention from the health authorities . However , the Program for Monitoring of Water Quality for Human Consumption - PROAGUA established in the State of São Paulo , is not included in the samples taken in the metropolitan area of Santos , State of Sao Paulo . In this paper , we analyze the quality of water fountains , springs and wells located in said region. 50 samples will be collected and analyzed for the presence of total and fecal coliforms , using the technique defined substrate ( Colilert ) , described in the methodology of the American Public Health Association - APHA , 21th . ed. 2005 plus the following physico -chemical properties: ammonium chloride , free residual chlorine ( in treated waters ) , cadmium , lead, apparent color , hardness, iron, manganese, nitrate, nitrite , odor , pH , total dissolved solids , sulfate and turbidity , according to the techniques described in " Methods for physical and chemical analysis of foods : analytical standards of the Instituto Adolfo Lutz ," 4th . ed. , ANVISA 2005. Meanwhile, the techniques are validated under a variety of physical-chemical characteristics , in particular the metals cadmium, lead , manganese and possibly other by means of atomic absorption spectrophotometry . It is hoped that the survey results serve to subsidize Surveillance to identify possible sources of contamination of samples , aiming at the prevention and control of diseases and waterborne , and clarify consumers about the health risks with the collaboration media.
