Abstract

The identification of the Acarina fauna of Rondônia and of ticks harboring humanpathogens. Detection of Rickettsia, Ehrlichia e Borrelia in ticks, through the utilization of PCR with group-specific primers. Determination of the prevalence of antibodies anti-Rickettsia and anti-Borrelia in human sera of Monte Negro, through the utilization of ELISA with specific antigens. Detection of undiagnosed febrile cases with symptoms and clinical history compatibie with infection by Rickettsia, Borrelia or Ehrlichia. Utilization of PCR and serology for the etiologic diagnosis of these cases. The setting up of surveillance capability in Monte Negro for the eventual detection of emergent diseases. (AU)
