Abstract

This research belongs to the field of Applied Linguistics, more specifically to the field of Pedagogical Bilingual Lexicography Portuguese-English. Our objective is to elaborate the online Dictionary of Portuguese-English Verbs for Brazilian students, focusing on students' needs and on cross-cultural language contrast. This is an applied qualitative research, which is exploratory and descriptive at the same time, because it analysis the verb entries in monolingual and bilingual dictionaries and then presents the entry for the bilingual equivalence under a new parameter. The motivation for this project came after the researcher's Doctorate dissertation was completed and after a study made at the University of Florida during the time the researcher was a Fulbright visiting professor at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, USA. This proposal is the first step towards an extensive and intensive work of compiling a dictionary; we expect to conclude and publish the dictionary in 2017. (AU)
