Abstract

This project aims to compare the dynamics of a forest using techniques reduced impact logging (RIL) with another conventionally logging (CL) in a property the name Agrosete Farm (3 S, 50° W), in Paragominas, in the northeast of the State of Pará. The studies will be carried out in an area of 210 ha, of which 75 ha were operated conventionally, 105 ha were explored using RIL techniques and 30 ha have not been exploited (control). The area was explored in 1993 and monitored until 2009. They located three blocks with sub-divided plots randomised controlled trials, being a block in each treatment (RIL, CL and control). In each block of 24.5 ha (350 m x 700 m) were established 49 plots of the 0.5 ha (50 m x 100 m. In each block was also established another subplot of 5.25 ha (75 m x 700 m). For each treatment shall be calculated the Periodic Annual Increment (IPA) in DBH, basal area and volume, and the Current Annual Increments (ICAs) in dbh and volume during the period of 1993 to 2013. Also mortality and recruitment will be calculated in each treatment, as well as the total carbon stock and annual. With the scientific results of this research project is expected to contribute to the understanding of the dynamics of post-intervention rainforests, monitoring the development of post-harvest forest, carbon stock in managed areas. These information are rare in forest sciences and substantially are important information to predict the future of these managed forests and the role of the management of native forests in global climate change.
