Nonlinear effects in basic problems of quantum electrodynamics

Abstract

Interactions of strong electromagnetic fields in the vacuum between themselves and with quantum fields will be investigated in the framework of Quantum Electrodynamics and other nonlinear field theories and applied to strong fields in the close vicinity of elementary particles (due to their charges, magnetic and electric moments), as well as to the fields of magnetars and quark stars. The approach will be based on calculations of the second- and higher-rank polarization tensors and a study of the corresponding nonlinear Maxwell equations within and beyond the local approximation of the effective action functional and its development in powers of the field invariants following the methods elaborated in the previous works of the group.
