Oral Health Survey in São Paulo State, Brazil

Abstract

The objective of this project is to understand the context of prevalence of the major problems in oral health (caries, periodontal disease, malocclusion, use and need of prosthesis), as well as information on risk factors, self-perception and use of health services among individuals of the group ages 15-19, 35-44 and 65 or older in the State of São Paulo. The sample desing include 18 domains (16 DRS, Metropolitan Region of São Paulo and São Paulo capital). For each domais the number of individuals to be examined and the number of households to be visited was calculated. Thus, a total of 64800 households and 23500 individuals should be selected. It has been estimated that for every domain a total of 12 PSU ( Primary Sampling Unit = Census Sector) will be drawn. The following indices will be used (DMFT, CPI, PIP, Use and Need for Prosthetics and DAI) as recommended by the World Health Organization. A questionnaire, previously used in Project SB Brazil 2010, will be applied with information regarding the use of services health, self-perceived oral health and socioeconomic conditions. The basic statistical analysis consist of the presentation of the final report with charts and graphs with the main results and the database will be made public. (AU)
