Abstract
Dr. Luis Elvira Segura (CSIC - Spain) will visit the Laboratory of Ultrasound (LUS)-Unesp for a period of one year. Dr. Elvira has a large experience in the measurement of properties of liquids using ultrasound, including theoretical modeling, design and implementation of dedicated instrumentation and analysis of experimental data. He will have an important role in a research project that is being submitted to FAPESP in parallel with this one, entitled "Characterization of liquids using high-frequency ultrasound" (process 2014/09034-8). This will involve the development of a high-frequency ultrasonic measurement cell (20-100 MHz), with small volumes (0.5 to 3 ml), high thermal stability and accuracy. This will allow the measurement of properties of homogeneous liquids, suspensions and emulsions. Dr. Elvira will participate in all steps of the research, which will be fundamental for the success of the project. At the moment he is co-supervisor of two PhD students that are developing their researches at LUS-Unesp, and will also help in the supervising of other ones (undergraduate, graduate and post-doc) and in courses in the graduate program in Electrical Engineering at Unesp. Periodic seminars have been programmed, on basic and applied topics related to the characterization of liquids using ultrasound and wave propagation. There will be visits to other research groups that work with ultrasound in Brazil (USP, Unicamp, UFRJ), as well as to companies in the areas of biofuels and paper close to Ilha Solteira. This will contribute to strength the collaboration network between LUS-Unesp, other Spanish and Brazilian research laboratories and industry, and also to increase success possibilities in the prospective for future projects which will be also carried out along the stay period.
