Abstract

Professor Dominique Plihon is a internationaly renowned economist, who has focused his research on subjects dear to the Institute of Economics (IE)/Unicamp, among which: i) financed-driven capitalism; ii) financial regulation and capital flows management; and iii) the euro crisis. Professor Plihon has papers published in well known journals and books internationally and which make up a mandatory literature of some undergraduate and graduate courses at IE/Unicamp. Therefore, Professor Plihon will bring priceless contributions to the debates at IE. We hope the visiting-researcher will give assistance in three researches currently in progress at IE, namely: i) "Follow-up methodologies for the main Brazilian financial markets: the behavior of pension funds (public and private)"; ii) "Financial crisis in fiduciary currency regimes: the experiences in Latin America and the European Monetary Union"; iii) "The International Monetary System Hierarchy". This consultancy will be held in loco at the specific meetings for each aforementioned projects. Moreover, besides these presencial meetings, we could count on Professor Plihon’s support at distance as well, through exchanging messages and teleconferences. Professor Plihon would also hold meetings with graduate students their supervisors whenever they wish. Many students have already shown interest in these meetings, so that Prof. Plihon’s advices for a number of dissertations and thesis would be another major benefit of his stay at IE/Unicamp. His critical analysis of the subjects, hypotheses and paths that have been taken in these graduate researches would certainly be enriching for the ongoing works. Prof. Plihon would contribute to the formation of students and professor, lecturing about two themes of great interest to IE/Unicamp. The lectures would be open for the whole university and certainly would attract students and professors of other institutes of Unicamp, especially of the IFCH. Another expected benefit of Prof. Plihon’s visit is the continuity of his partnership with professor of IE/Unicamp in writing academic papers. Prof. Plihon has already two published papers co-written with Professors Daniela Prates and Bruno De Conti and another one in progress, which yielded from the PHD thesis of Bruno, under co-supervision of Professors Daniela Prates and Dominique Plihon, sponsored by FAPESP. Prof. Plihon presence would enable the progress in this ongoing paper and the planning of other papers in joint authorship. The purpose is to submit these new papers to renowned international journals. Finally, we hope Prof. Plihon’s stay would be fruitful for planning the future activities under the long lasting cooperation between the IE/Unicamp and the Centre d'Économie de l'Université Paris 13. This cooperation has been very effective, involving: student exchanges (currently, we have a PHD student with master degree at University Paris 13 and many students of IE/Unicamp have already done their sandwich doctorate in this French university); professor exchange (Daniela Prates, Maryse Farhi, Marcos Antonio Macedo e Cintra, Cláudio Dedecca, Antonio Carlos Macedo e Silva, among other, have already been visiting-professors at University Paris 13); PhD students with co-tutorship of thesis; co-written papers; and the joint organization of a seminar in 2009 at IE/Unicamp on the finance-driven capitalism.
