Abstract

Dr. Klaus Miczek, Professor of Psychology, Pharmacology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Tufts University (Medford/Boston, MA, United States) will visit Brazil in the period of September 9th to 13th. Initially, he will visit the Department of Psychobiology, at Escola Paulista de Medicina / Universidade Federal de São Paulo (EPM / UNIFESP). Among the events planned during his stay, there are two events open to the UNIFESP community and researchers from other universities in the state of São Paulo. The first will be a lecture on the effects of social stress on drug and alcohol consumption and addiction, using animal models, a line of research widely developed by Prof. Miczek for decades. The other event will be a Workshop on scientific writing, aimed primarily at graduate students and biomedical researchers, when Dr. Miczek will present and discuss recommendations and suggestions for scientific publication, from the perspective of his work as Editor of an internationally acclaimed scientific journal, Psychopharmacology, during the last 25 years. Besides these events to the general public, Klaus will also participate in meetings and more informal conversations at UNIFESP, particularly with the research group of Professor Isabel Quadros and other collaborators in the department, to discuss recent research results and the progress of ongoing collaborations. After the visit to Sao Paulo, Prof. Miczek will take part of the XXXVIII Congress of the Brazilian Society for Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC), held in Buzios (RJ), September 10-13. During the Congress, he will participate as a speaker at a symposium chaired by Dr. Isabel Quadros, entitled "Susceptibility and resilience to social stress and underlying mechanisms in reward systems". In this event, he will present the lecture "Escalated alcohol drinking and intravenous cocaine self-administration in socially stressed mice: role of CRF-R1 and CRF-R2 antagonists". (AU)
