Psychological disstres among health area students

Abstract

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the country with regard to the study of different kinds of psychological distress at medical schools. Such issue has a clear interface with the health education because psychological distress may compromise training, especially in the non-cognitive aspects. This project is part of a research on mental health of medical students, developed at Botucatu Medical School, UNESP (FMB). From surveys developed at FMB, some studies have been developed focusing on different aspects of living conditions and health of medical students. This project's overall objectives: 1. Estimate the prevalence of psychological distress in students of Nursing, Medicine and Nutrition, from the responses to a questionnaire containing a series of instruments. 2. For the subgroup of medical students, who also participated in the survey in 2011, we can also examine psychological distress longitudinally. At that time was built a baseline for a cohort study. Among medical students, as can be seen in the review below, there are a reasonable number of searches, but few longitudinal studies. It is hoped that this, enhance our understanding of psychological distress and also on the factors associated with this outcome, both with regard to social determinants, as well as those relating to the structure of the course.
