Abstract

A major problem in the commercialization of avocados is the incidence of postharvest diseases, which coincides with the ripening of fruits. The main postharvest diseases are anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides) and stem end rots (Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Fusicoccum spp. e Neofusicoccum spp.), called quiescent disease because infect developing fruit in the field and the symptoms expression in postharvest. Due to the lack of precise information on pathosystems and of satisfactory management technologies of postharvest diseases, this project aims to: (i) quantify the incidence of postharvest diseases in avocado 'Hass' produced in the state of São Paulo, identifying the species of Fusicoccum spp. and Neofusicoccum spp. incidents and characterizing the aggressiveness and susceptibility of major pathogens to fungicides azoxystrobin, difenoconazole, copper oxychloride and thiabendazole; (ii) characterize the temporal dynamics and spatial distribution of major postharvest pathogens in commercial orchard of avocado 'Hass' in Bauru, SP (iii) evaluate the effect of chemical and alternative products in the control of rots in the field and in postharvest performing physicochemical characterization in fruits submitted to postharvest treatments. The fruits from different sources will be sampled in packinghouse located in Bauru and the experiments will be conducted in controlled environment in APTA Bauru and plots of a commercial orchard in Bauru. Molecular identification of pathogens will be held at UNESP Botucatu. (AU)
