Abstract

In this project we expect to bring the researcher Mauricio G. C. Resende, from the AT&T research center to the University of Campinas. With this visit, we expect to write a paper in a telecommunications problem and delineate new research problems in telecommunications network design. The participation of this researcher is of importance, as he has not only the knowledge on telecommunications problems, but he is also a specialist in the Combinatorial Optimization area. One of the main problems we will work in this project, is the wireless backhaul network design problem, for which we are investigating new practical constraints. Moreover, it is important to note that the proposed algorithms can be validated with real instances he could test at AT&T. In addition to the research problem, we expect to approximate the two research groups and to define new research problems to investigate in collaboration. We also note that Mauricio Resende is co-advisor of a PhD student of the Brazilian group. We already obtained some publications, mainly from the research that originated from the period the PhD student was under Mauricio supervision during the BEPE-Fapesp visiting period. These collaborations leads to the publication of an international journal paper with impact factor 3.73 and Qualis A1, the publications of two papers in international conferences Qualis A1, and a paper submission to an international journal. With this visit, we expect to investigate new problems in the telecommunications area. (AU)
