Influence of the gait type on the electromyographic pattern

The aim of this study is to perform the gait analysis of healthy dogs of three different sizes based on velocity determined by treadmill to walk and trot, while the EMG signal is evaluated from the biceps femoris muscle. Thirty dogs of three different sizes will be divided equally in three groups: G1 - small size, G2 - medium size, G3 - large size. The standardization will be performed by body size, regardless of the breed, based on the forelimb and hind limb lengths and body length. The dogs will be judged to be healthy based on complete physical and orthopedic examinations, and radiographic exams. Before data collection, the dogs will be trained to locomotion on the GAIT4Dog treadmill to avoid variations on the data. For each group, the velocity of walking and trotting will be determined. Data about body distribution (scoring system) of the four limbs and motion characteristics of each limb will be obtained. At the same time, biceps femoris muscle will be evaluated in each group, at the walk and trot, using the Delsys surface EMG system with eight channels of the Myomonitor III, which transmits electromyographic signals by telemetry. The processing and presentation of the signal will be effected with Delsys software. The data will be evaluated by the Student t test. (AU)
