Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is a major public health problem, responsible for numerous hospitalizations and mortality. The disease causes negative impact not only on patients but also on their families and caregivers and can lead to social isolation, increased anxiety, depression, stress, overload and decreased quality of life. The family as the focus of study is essential for the care and the orientations performed by the nursing staff. Objective: To identify the anxiety, depression and stress in families of outpatients with heart failure. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study and will be conducted at the Cardiomyopathy Clinic of the São Paulo Hospital. The study population will consist of 96 patients´ family with HF. Questionnaires that will be used are a sociodemographic and clinical instrument, contend items about anthropometric data, lifestyle, personal history, as well as self-rated health, Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living Scale and Caregiver Burden, and three instruments validated for identification of psychological aspects: Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Perceived Stress Scale 10.
