Abstract

In phase I of the project, a prototype machine with industrial characteristics was developed for the production of three-dimensional multi layer fabric from aramid fiber. Then we started developing the multi layer tissue itself using aramid fiber. The choice to start the fabric development using aramid fiber was due to the fact that it presented, as its main application, the manufacture of composites used in ballistic protection, either in personal bulletproof vests or in automotive and aircraft armor. This market is currently considered strategic due to the growing wave of crime that is spreading across our country and to the proximity of the Olympics. The development of the proposed equipment was started by making two cantres for the positioning of 1000 cones. Each cone has an individual tensioner, composed of special ceramics. Its function is to keep all yarns tensioned during the fabric production process. Next, we started to develop the machine for producing three-dimensional multi layer fabric, which is being carried out at TECPLAS facilities and with part of the components acquired and transferred by FAPESP to TECPLAS and partly with its own resources. The development of the equipment took place in two stages: the first one consisted of assembling the equipment structure and in the second stage we developed the necessary components for the production of three-dimensional multi layer fabric of aramid fiber. In parallel to the equipment development and assembly, we passed all 1000 warp threads needed for fabric development. Following this step, we began the development of three-dimensional multi layer tissue using aramid fiber. (AU)
