Abstract

Our research project focus the preparation of functional hybrid organic-inorganic materials. One of the topics is the synthesis of derivatives of naphthalic imides and bis-imides with inorganic oxides, to study the effects of the organic molecule on the surface of a non-conducting oxide (n-, p-type semiconductor) for photophysical and photochemical determinations. The aim is to understand the properties and stereo-electronic events that govern the adsorbed aromatic molecule. In other work, the goal is to form periodic mesoporous networks from bisililated imidic generated by directional synthesis with supramolecular associations. In this approach we expect to correlate structural aspects of the organic molecule with the structural arrangements of the silicate network. In these studies fluorescence techniques are the main choice principally because of their analytical potential to determine charge and electron transfers and aggregation events, for instance. In a broader context the investigation drives toward optimization of synthetic routes, easier chemical and physical analysis, and to pinpoint crucial properties that allow subsequent applications.
