Abstract
This project has as main objectives to build and examine what we call here prison writing field in modern Brazilian literature. Understood as an open field, it will be intentionally built based on previously selected works. Thus, the study came from the confrontation between O cemitério dos vivos, by Lima Barreto (1881-1922), Memórias do cárcere, by Graciliano Ramos (1892-1953), and now it is including in its corpus: Bastilhas modernas, by Everardo Dias (1883-1966); O louco de Cati, by Dyonelio Machado (1895-1985); Hospício é deus, by Maura Lopes Cançado (1929-1993), and Memórias do esquecimento, by Flavio Tavares (1934-). To conduct the survey, we based ourselves on two main references: the concept of testimony in the Literature and the theoretical work of Maurice Blanchot. (AU)
