Abstract

Alcohol abuse and marital violence greatly affect families and work relations; however, there are still few qualitative studies which widen the comprehension of relation between marriage, alcohol abuse and problems in work. Such comprehension is essential because both alcohol dependence and its association with violence have great incidence and, in the same way, work relations affect and can be affected by such issues. Besides, work organizations can be a field to preventing the alcohol-violence-work association, what requires subsidies and, therefore, a better understanding that situation. Objectives: Understanding how the work relations of partners affect alcohol abuse and marital relationship, considering the recursion of such phenomena, that is, how questions relating to alcohol abuse and relationship affect the work of marital couple. Basing propositions of brief interventions to reducing harms of violence, alcohol use and work problems, in order to build a preventive project, whose pilot one must be executed afterwards. Methodology: qualitative and descriptive research, for which semi-structured interviews with people who have alcohol abuse or partners of people who abuse of alcohol will be done. Interview excerpts and data of recently ended research concerning alcohol use and violence among spouses will be used as well. Sociodemographic data of participants will be registered and used. About 20 adult people will be interviewed, depending on the saturation process. Firstly, participants of the previous research (cited above) will be invited to participate in this study. As the interviews are being conducted, their contents will be analyzed until they become to repeat (saturation point). Other participants will be invited to this research(summarized here). The audio recording of interviews will allow the transcription and review of that content for further data analyzing, according to the Content Analysis technique. Main themes will be defined in conformity to of interview content, which will be discussed among researchers. After, the data analysis will be discussed based to recently published concerning familiar relationships, violence, alcohol and drugs use, brief interventions and work relations. Interviews will consist of open and closed questions about the possible influences of alcohol use made by one of the spouse in the work of both, as well as the influences of their work relations in the couple quarrels and the alcohol consuming. The present and previous research will base the elaborating and the accomplishment of a pilot project of preventive brief intervention in institutions (school, enterprise, service unity, etc.). (AU)
