Abstract
Wood based panels are becoming interesting alternatives to the replacement of solid wood in various applications, from structural components to the furniture industry and packaging. Among these products, there are panels built by strands, particles and fibers, each one having their particular characteristics and potential of use. This study aimed to assess the physical and mechanical properties of the OSB panels treated with CCA and heat treatment (160, 180 and 200°C) aiming improve dimensional stability and durability to the panels. The panels produced will be hot-pressed and characterized by physical and mechanical tests according to specifications of European Standard (EN) 300 (2006) for measuring the density, moisture content, thickness swelling, water absorption, static bending and internal adhesion. At the same time bioassays are performed to evaluate the efficacy of chemical and thermal treatments. Based on the results obtained the treatments are compared with literature and current standards and applications for the panels will be presented. (AU)
