Abstract

The project consists of the manufacture, assembly and test of prototypes of a RF Front End with Analogue/Digital converters to be used in an electron beam position monitor (EBPM) that shall be integrated in the vacuum chamber of a particles accelerator. The RF Front-end comprises of filters, switches, attenuators and mainly low-noise amplifiers in charge of processing the analog signals received from four existing antennas inside the vacuum chamber, thus, providing means to calculate the beam position. The Front End shall use basically commercial off-the-shelf analog components, being its specifications quite challenging especially those related to non-linearity and long-term stability. After the RF Front-End analog signal conditioning, the signals from the thermo-vacuum chamber antennas are digitized by analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). Those converters are not required to perform better than the currently available converters on the market, however, they demand specific timings directly related to the carrier frequency of the signal and also have reference clocks in the carrier phase.
