Abstract

The 2015 RTI's appliance plan was developed by internal committee of researchers and director of FCMSCSP and is related to the construction of adequate infrastructure for the use of animals as experimental biological models - biotery. The new biotery will be in charge of the Department of Physiological Sciences and it will be available to anyone of the FCMSCSP. The use of resources for this purpose fully meets the objectives of FAPESP because the biotery will be designated only to research and will benefit large number of researchers from the institution, including their students. The biotery is designated to reproduction, maintenance and use of animals as experimental biological models and should be adequate to well established ethical rules. The biotery environment requires special care, such as sanitary, temperature and feeds specific conditions to provide scientific relevance and confidence to works, justifying the acquisition of air conditioner equipments. Although the total amount for this adaptation exceeds the available RTI financial resource, the infrastructure adequacy will be performed since the difference will be complemented by FAVC (FCMSCSP sponsor). We chose to use the resources for the purchase and installation of air conditioning equipment, exhaust and ventilation due to the importance of these parameters to the biotery proper functioning. The temperature control is one of the most important parameters because the temperature oscillation may compromise physiological and behavioral responses of animals. Also, biotery is indoors and offensive odors may be generating damaging users and the animals themselves. (AU)
