Objects, landscapes and heritage: archaeology of colonialism and the people of Guarulhos (research and inventory of Guarulhos archaeological heritage - PIPAG)

The book "Objects, landscapes and heritage: Archaeology of Colonialism and the people of Guarulhos" discusses conceptual and practical questions about Colonial Archaeology, Landscape Archaeology, and the Archaeology of Movement. The book also presents the way society understands material culture as heritage, and the civil society and government approach to managing and protecting past remains. The contribution of this research comes from different topics, such as colonization, geography and spatiality, migration, indigenous slavery and, ultimately, mobility and movement of people, objects, ideas, and heritage. By discussing landscape, urbanization, buildings, and material culture, this research studies the European colonization of the New World, linking local indigenous cultures with the European mercantilism of the sixteenth century. Furthermore, the book shows how this process led to the modification of the area of production and, consequently, to modern urban development. (AU)
