The advance of machining technologies disseminated the use of CNC machines and as they became usual in the daily operations in the mechanical industries. However, the resources that CNC machines provide are not completely explored, resulting in idleness and inefficacy, especially considering the investment on the acquisition of these machines. Aiming to solve a parcel of these problems presetting systems were developed to reduce setup operations by means of the measurement and referencing of the tools. Unfortunately, the use of these systems is not a reality in the industries, especially when it is considered the number of CNC machine tools existing in the Brazilian industrial sector, and the reasons to this fact are still unknown and unexplained. The present research project proposes the development of a Survey to identify the most common presetting practices that are adopted in the industry, as well to identify the real reasons that prevent a wider utilization of presetting systems. The project also aims to disseminate the use of presetting systems, as well the advantages that the use of these equipment can bring to the implementation of Lean Manufacturing. (AU)
