ADDITIVE PROBIOTIC INFLUENCE ON TILAPIA (Oreochromis niloticus)GROWTH

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of probiotic additive in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) growth, establishing growth curves, assessing the morphology of the muscular and ventral subcutaneous adipose tissues, carcass characteristics and expression of genes that control growth. Tilapia fingerlings of approximately 1.5 g will be grown in recirculation systems containing 15 water tanks of 0.25 m³ each at 28 °C, with biological filter and UV system at 80 fish/m³. The fish are fed three times a day, with the same feed, using the probiotic additive supplied by Biofield Nutrition Animal Import and Export LTDA. They will be assessed the inclusion levels of 0.1 and 0.2% of probiotic additive. The probiotic will be homogenized in 2% soy oil and sprinkled over the feed. The control treatment will consist only of the addition of vegetable oil in the same proportion. Exponential models will be adjusted for the determination and comparison of growth rates, with weightings at days 0th, 30th, 60th and 90th of cultivation. At the end of the experiment will be evaluated the body morphology, histology of muscle and adipose tissue linking them to cell hypertrophy and hyperplasia and crypts morphology in the gut villi. They will be determined hepatosomatic and viscerossomatic index, carcass yield and the fat content in the fillet. It will also be assessed the expression of IGF1 and myostatin gene in muscle. The design will be completely randomized with treatments in factorial scheme 3 x 4 (treatments x age) and five replicates (tanks). (AU)
