Abstract

In this research phase I we present the pilot project for inspection cap made of composite material to replace the cast iron caps currently used by water, light, telephone utilities and others. The composite material of this research is BMC. The research consisted of experimentally making various BMC formulas on a pilot scale and performing mechanical tests at an accredited laboratory to define the formulations that meet the parameters required by users. Using the determined properties, we calculated the dimensions for the researched part and presented the inspection cap and base drawings. With the dimensions and properties defined we determined in which application group our cap can be used. For the heavier application group, some experiments on SMC were also simulated. The research was carried out at TECPLAS facilities and some of the pilot scale equipment used was purchased and assigned by FAPESP to TECPLAS. Properties tests were performed at UFSCAR testing equipment. This project developed in phase I will be used in phase II to manufacture the prototype mold. (AU)
