Abstract

This research project aims to link the body education, mainly by representations about youth and aging with the nation building "imagined" in the field of culture through compromises and conflicts in the construction of the modern Brazil in the 1930's, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The central hypothesis will examine the adherence or resistance to idea of a Brazilian nation "imagined" as a prosperous, modern and urban community. Consequently, the particularity of Brazilian people was thought from a body education, encouraged and propagandized by centered practices and discourses in representations of healthy youth and aging that were translated into pedagogy, services, products, as well public education and health policies. In terms of methodology, the analysis of documents will have a theoretical approach identified with the "new cultural history", operating with the concepts of "practical" and "representations", having as sources an intellectual production, the press through newspapers and Brazilian literature.
