Role of neutrophil extracellular traps as modulator of cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction

Abstract

Cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction is associated with ventricular dysfunction and poor outcomes. Thus, therapeutic approaches to prevent or attenuate the remodeling process are indispensable after myocardial infarction. The mechanisms involved in this process are complex but the inflammatory response might play a critical role. Recently, several evidences suggest that the neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play a role in different cardiovascular process, including atherosclerosis. However, the role of NETs on cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction remains to be elucidated. Therefore, in this project, our objective is to analyze the role of NETs in the remodeling process following coronary occlusion. (AU)
