The research proposal falls within the field of research devoted to investigation of factors related to economic and social development at the local level. The city of Caraguatatuba, located on this north coast of São Paulo, stands out in the region, among other factors, due to its significant population growth and expansion of economic activities in recent decades. Social and economic data of the city indicate mismatch between economic growth and development, with the territorialized inequalities by socioeconomic division in areas with greatest need of resources. It is assumed in the literature related to the development debate multidimensionality that characterizes it. Adopt the premise of the relevance of non-economic factors for the realization of economic and social development processes, such as the concept of social capital. The objective of the research is to relate the socioeconomic profile of the urban territory of Caraguatatuba with a share social capital of local people. Seeks to establish the relationship between social capital and the conditions that affect social and economic development of the municipality. The method is characterized as descriptive, qualitative and quantitative approach, with collection of field data. The expected results relate to production subsidies for the improvement of public policies aimed at education, health and the promotion of well-being, factors necessary for economic and social development.
