Abstract

The growing ecological awareness, environmental protection, social justice and concern for future generations are directly related to the way the business process their products and services. The retail growth results from the diversification of the sector in order to meet the needs of consumers and their level of demand. Pressured by consumer and environmental laws, the adoption of environmental preservation practices are strengthening in the retail supermarket. The goal of this research is to analyze the economic and environmental benefits resulting from the implementation of reverse logistics in the retail supermarket. To achieve the proposed objective will be a study with 18 supermarkets in the state of Sao Paulo to compare volumes and types of waste that is collected through reverse logistics. To measure the environmental advantages, will be used MIPS method (Input Per Service Unit Material) indicating the amount of resource used for the production of a product or service quantitatively measuring the volume of biotic and abiotic material ceases to be produced and the volume of water and air is no longer polluted with the production of new materials. By means of logistic regression is expected to evaluate the characteristics of supermarkets are related to the volume of recycled and reused with RL practices. Therefore, the adoption of reverse logistics practices in retail can be evaluated for different sizes of markets as its economic viability, environmental and social. (AU)
