Abstract

EMU 2014/50489-9: elastography ultrasound for safe study of dimensions and elasticity of organs in children Ultrasound Elastography uses ultrasound waves to obtaining imaging and to study elasticity of tissues, with the advantage of not using ionizing radiation, therefore harmless. The main objective of the equipment that will be installed at the Imaging Department of the Diagnostic Center "Child Friendly" of the ICr is the study of thymus dimensions and its elasticity in healthy children population of various ages and children that knownly have affected thymus, as in Down syndrome, and children submitted to situations that can damage the thymus, such as use of immunosuppressive drugs. Parallel to imaging study, a functional assessment of the organ will be accomplished through: i) determining the total number of lymphocytes and number of T helper lymphocytes (CD4 +) and cytotoxic; ii) determining the numbers of TRECs (T-cell receptor excision circles or thymic recent emigrant cells), in In turn, this multi-user equipment (EMU) should also be used by other medical researcher groups of ICr, especially those working with liver disease, where elastography ultrasound has already been proved to be very useful in identifying liver cirrhosis. (CD8 +) and order to trying to establish relationships between imaging and functional parameters. (AU)
