Abstract

The following solicitation was elaborated to promote the first partnership activities with Dr. Stefano Cannicci, which we had been discussing for months via email. Since our first contact, Dr. Cannicci has been showing his interest to develop scientific activities in collaboration with our research group and also strengthen the relationship between Brazilian institutions and Hong Kong. Despite his area of expertise (effect of climate changes on biology and physiology of intertidal organisms), which is related with my ongoing projects as principal investigator, I submit this proposal with all activities compassing distinct strategies: 1) Despite his wide range of experience on homogenous research projects, Dr. Cannicci will take part in the field activities and laboratory experiments of our ongoing project to (I) contribute with his substantial affinity with activities that we are initiating at this moment, bringing his skills in specific methods and techniques which would maximize the investments that have been made on ongoing projects in Brazil (all supported by FAPESP - #2015/50300-6 and 2014/16983-6), (II) work as advisor of the line of research, projects and students to improve the structure of my research group and (III) discuss protocols and supportive activities of projects that he will collaborate and would be expanded to the Subtropical Asian Coast, which results in concomitant research activities at both subtropical regions. 2) For his period in Brazil, we already planned several meetings with important Brazilian researchers from different Universities and Research Centers, which also work with ecology and physiology of aquatic organisms. Our purpose aims to introduce Dr. Cannicci to their ongoing activities and to discuss mutual interests for future collaborations. Also, we have organized for each visit a presentation by Dr Stefano Cannicci in order to spread his research projects and arrange viable partnerships. Beyond the UNESP - Instituto de Biociências, Campus do Litoral Paulista, other meetings were already scheduled: UNIFESP, Campus da Baixada Santista, Hoster: Prof. Dr. Ronaldo Adriano Christofoletti; CEBIMAR/USP, Hoster: Profa. Dra. Áurea Ciotti; UNESP, Campus de Botucatu , Hoster: Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Egydio Barreto. 3) It will be conducted a Research workshop (2 days) at UNESP/IB CLP for all colleagues and students of my research group and anyone else who is interested in 'Effect of climate changes on biology and physiology of aquatic organisms', in order to (I) introduce the lines of research and ongoing activities in Brazil, (II) discuss viable research collaborations and partnerships projects and (III) discuss the formal possibilities of between the Institutions. In the workshop, Dr. Cannicci will give a presentation about his ongoing projects. Dr. Cannicci will also give a post-graduation course titled: "Climate Change Biology". This course will be conducted in 3 post-graduation programs: Biodiversidade Aquática (UNESP, Campus do Litoral Paulista), Ciências Biológicas/Zoologia (UNESP, Campus de Botucatu) and Análise Ambiental Integrada, UNIFESP Campus de Diadema and Instituto do Mar, Santos. Beyond his scientific contributions, Dr. Cannicci will show internship possibilities for students. (AU)
