Abstract
The growing trend of gestational diabetes mellitus risk is associated with increased risk of morbidity and maternal and perinatal mortality. Children of mothers with gestational diabetes untreated are at risk for intrauterine death, heart and breathing problems, jaundice and episodes of hypoglycemia after delivery. Also, after the development of gestational diabetes, women are more susceptible to developing diabetes throughout his life. The nutritional intervention appears to be an important factor in the control of this diabetes, and it may bring potential benefits for maternal and fetal health. Aim: Check possible reduction of moderate gestational diabetes damage in rats, at exposure to three species of edible mushrooms, considering their nutritional potential. Methods: Perinatal assessment techniques will be employed in daily maternal exposure to lyophilized powders from Agaricus balzei, Lentinula edodes or Ganoderma lucidum before or after the induction of pregnancy type 2 diabetes with streptozotocin (single dose of 40 mg/kg, IP.); will be performed (1) biochemical evaluations and oxidative stress placenta, amniotic fluid and maternal blood; (2) Oral glucose maternal tolerance test and insulin dosages; (3) evaluation of embryofetal development. Results: How is a pre-clinical trial, we intend to use these parameters to infer on the potential benefits of exposure to Lentinula edodes, the Agaricus blazei and Ganoderma lucidum rats during gestation period with moderate DMG.
