Abstract

The book Shelter or home? Moral development of children and adolescents sheltered comes to thinking about the possibilities of working with children and adolescents sheltered so that their physical, emotional, educational and social needs are met. The work describes the research experience in an Institutional Shelter which lasted about three years. For this study we used the diagnostic work and intervention aimed at the establishment of a favorable environment for the moral development of these children and adolescents. The work on the shelter institution for children and adolescents at social risk with the participation of officials and sheltered, thus the study was enriched with the analysis and arising reflection of comments, attitudes, and responses of the participants to work both with the researchers as the routine of the institution. Research and own data analysis had as main reference the theory of Jean Piaget. In addition, the book bring to discussion two theoretical chapters: one featuring the theme of the study, historically contextualizing the treatment of children and adolescents institutionalized in Brazil and the situation of post-ECA hosting services, as well as the concern to attend the constitutional right moral development; and another is sought to explain, in the Piagetian theoretical perspective, moral development, moral education issues in individuals living in institutions and theoretical characterization of a sociomoral environment. Three other chapters portray the discussion of prosecutions, challenges, problems, and prospects that the study provided. Encouraging thus the reflection not only the results, but also the involvement of experience of researchers and subjects in unity in the search for a favorable sociomoral environment for the development of the autonomy of sheltered children and adolescents, seeking thereby mitigate the limitations of own researchers and the vulnerability of employees brought about by working in an institution or on the vulnerability of children and adolescents by living outside the conviviality of his family in the host service.
