Abstract
The proposal aims to act in Teaching, Research and Innovation oriented for the formation of skilled researchers and the generation of knowledge and agrochemical products. In a recent paper about world agricultural pesticides, it was reported that the pesticide sales in Brazil to more than double recently, with Brazil surpassing the US to become the largest market in the world. Pesticides are the second most important item in the import account of agricultural sector. This information demonstrated the great need for a program for the minor use of pesticides. This proposal intends to respond to these needs, which are classified as strategic in the public policy of the Government documents. Economic, social and environmental benefits to be achieved are related to the themes Agriculture and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity. Thus, the general objective of this proposal is developing dynamic programs to identify optimal strategies for the Biorational Control of Crop Pests. To reach the overall goals, the project consists of the following steps: 1- Determination of the toxic potencies of plant species that are known potentially having pesticide properties and therefore could be developed into botanical pesticides. 2- Synthesis of compound derivatives as potent and effective pesticide agents. 3- Expand our research in insect pest management. The new extracts and pure compounds that were obtained will be tested against new insects. 3- Use enzymes as targets to understand the mechanisms of action of our compounds so that they can be better used to control pests. 4- Study the interaction between plants, insects and microorganisms to better understand the communication between them and to generate strategies for insect and phytopathogen control. 5- Study citrus waste to obtain useful and valuable chemicals.
