Abstract

The present research proposal has objectives focused on 3 main fronts related to cobia farming in Southeastern Brazil: a. feeding and nutrition - determine performance and digestibility with practical, commercial and experimental diets with fish meal replacement; b. environment - assess relationships farming-environment and vice-versa such as sediment quality under cobia cage farming, and biofouling of cage nets; c. economy - set a basic economic analysis of a commercial cobia farm in SE Brazil including evaluation of costs (fixed, variable) and incomes. Cobia growout trials in the sea will be performed under practical farming conditions as well as experiments on biofouling incrustation. Bottom sediment quality will be carried out by sampling and analysis of experimental and commercial cobia farming initiatives in Ubatuba. The project will use research structure of USP Aquaculture Laboratory in São Paulo and Ubatuba where fish trial systems, diet manufacturing and analytical facilities are located. The information obtained in the present research will be made available for either public or private entities. (AU)
