Abstract

The literature reinforces the importance of Phonological Awareness (PA) to written language development. However, the training of PA is focused on children already diagnosed with Learning Disabilities when the age and academic losses are greater. There is a need for investments in promoting phonological awareness in the classroom and in the training of teachers, especially on public education considering the majority of the school population. Therefore, the study aims to develop a program of phonological awareness skills associated with reading and writing strategies, then to use it in school environment. The program and the training of teachers are supported by previous studies. To check the effects of the program the pre and post-performance will be compared between the students. Approximately 75 students will be selected, aged 6 to 7 years, of both genders, enrolled in the 1st year of primary school in a public school in the city of Bauru (São Paulo). It is believed that this search can help the written language development in school children. (AU)
