Profile of gene expression associated with heat stress in Nellore and Caracu


The primary purpose of this proposal is to quantify and compare the effect of thermal challenge on the expression profile of coding genes of the heat shock proteins 60, 70 and 90 (Hsp60, Hsp70 and Hsp90) among Nellore (Bos indicus) and Caracu (Bos taurus) breeds of cattle. During the summer months, when temperatures reach their peak (October-February), the rectal and skin surface temperatures, heart and respiratory rates will be measured in the animals of both races. Animal blood samples will be collected before (in the morning - 7:30 am) and after (the afternoon - 3:00 pm) exposure to the sun, for metering adrenocorticotropic hormone (ATCH) and cortisol. Blood samples will be used for mRNA extraction and study of the levels of transcripts of the coding genes of the heat shock proteins Hsp60, Hsp70 and Hsp90 by real-time PCR. (AU)
